Zircon Challenge Trophy - February 1987

Critics of investigative journalism commonly repeat unsourced and unverifiable claims that stories such as the revelation of the Zircon spy satellite threaten security and safety.   After the Secret Society "Zircon" programme made for BBC-2 had been shown widely, but unofficially, across Britain early in 1987 Duncan offered a trophy and a cash prize of a month of his salary to anyone who could explain and justify such claims about the contents of the program.   The trophy prize was announced on the BBC Nine O'Clock News in February 1987.
